KIHASA announced its plan to conduct a survey on youth's living on 15,000 households that have at least one youth aged 19 to 34, from the fourth week of July to the fourth week of August, in collaboration with the Office for Government Policy Coordination and the Korea Statistics Promotion Institute.

The Framework Act on Youth, enacted in February 2020 and enforced in August in that year, stipulates that the government carry out an investigation on the living conditions of youth every two years. Accordingly, the government commissioned KIHASA to conduct its first-ever such investigation.

The target of the survey is households that have at least one youth aged 19 to 34 or youth in that ages themselves. Professional survey investigators are to visit such households in person and conduct interviews with the youth. The survey is designed to find out the living conditions and characteristics of youth, and youth's desires and social awareness in a comprehensive and multi-dimensional manner, with 200 questions divided into eight categories consisting of youth's general characteristics, housing, health, education and training, labor, relationships and social participation, social awareness and future plans, and economy.

The survey outcome will be used in designing youth policy aimed at improving their quality of life; its data will be available on Statistics Korea's national statistics portal. The survey will be regularly conducted to produce data that will make possible longitudinal analysis of youth statistics, which will provide important evidence for the continued improvement of youth policy.
