We received a comment asking, "Is the term 'Young Carer' another way of referring to child heads of household?" It seems that because the term isn't yet familiar to many, there are questions about its meaning.

First, the word "carer" or caregiver refers to someone who, without a formal contract, provides care to individuals within their social network―such as family, relatives, or neighbors―who experience restrictions in their daily activities, typically for six months or more. Among these, younger individuals who take on such responsibilities are referred to as "Young Carers."

In the UK, the term "Young Carer" was defined in the Children and Families Act, which was enacted in 2014, as a person under the age of 18 who provides, or intends to provide, care to others. This is slightly different from the previously used term "child head of household," as Young Carers provide direct care to their family members.
