On July 20, KIHASA held a ceremony to commemorate its 53rd anniversary at the multi-purpose hall in the Research Support Building at the Sejong National Research Complex. At the event, the first of its kind since the COVID-19 situation that all staff members met in person, Dr. Oh Young-ae, a former KIHASA researcher, was invited to give a special lecture on how to take care of one's health, with special emphasis on eye health. After the lecture, awards were given for outstanding research papers that had been highly rated in the performance evaluation of national policy research institutes. After the awards, a luncheon was served along with some recreational activities led by one of KIHASA's staff members, promoting camaraderie and a sense of unity among KIHASA staff.

KIHASA was founded on July 20, 1970. It came to have it current name in 1989, when it succeeded the Korea Institute for Population and Health (KIPH). The KIPH was formed through the merger of two entities, the Korea Health Development Institute (KHDI) and the Korea Institute for Family Planning (KIFP). The KIFP taces its roots back to the National Family Planning Center (NFPC), which was founded on July 20, 1970. Throughout its history of over five decades, KIHASA has been at the forefront of health and welfare policymaking in Korea and is on its way to establishing itself as a global think tank beyond Korea, expanding its leadership in social policy as a whole.
