Signing of Multilateral Agreement to Create a Happy Korea for the Elderly in the Age of Centenarians

KIHASA and several other organizations have agreed to work together to build a happy Korea for the elderly in the age of centenarians by signing a multilateral agreement at the conference hall of the Korea Association of Senior Welfare Centers on Wednesday, January 17, at 2:00 p.m. The signatories include KIHASA, the Korean Gerontological Society, the Korean Society of Gerontological Social Welfare, the Korea Labor Force Development Institute for the Aged, the Korea Association of Senior Welfare Centers, and the Korea Development Institute for Self-Support Welfare.

The signing ceremony was attended by about twenty people, including Lee Tae Soo, President of KIHASA; Jeong Soon-dool, Chairperson of the Korean Gerontological Society; Nam Hyun-joo, Chairperson of the Korean Society of Gerontological Social Welfare; KIm Mi-gon, President of the Korea Labor Force Development Institute for the Aged; Park No-sook, Chairperson of the Korea Association of Senior Welfare Centers; and Jeong Hae-sik, President of the Korea Development Institute for Self-Support Welfare, as well as other participants from each organization.

This agreement marks an initial step for the six organizations, all sharing a commitment to creating a Korea where the rights to basic living and the provision of social care are ensured for older persons in the era of centenarians, in their efforts together to form a cooperative network for policy development and implementation, as well as joint organization of academic events and other activities, for a well-prepared future for the elderly.

This multilateral agreement is expected to generate synergies in policy research, development, implementation, and dissemination through the participation of various organizations, including a national policy research institute, a government agency, an academic society, and an agency in the field.

This six signatories of the agreement will jointly hold a 'centenarian happiness forum' under the theme of "How Prepared Are We for the Centenarian Society?" in conjunction with Rep. Shin Dong-geun, Chairman of the National Assembly Health and Welfare Committee, a the National Assembly Hall on Thursday, February 22, at 11 a.m.
