? Research Aims
- The primary purpose of this research is to produce statistics on poverty and inequality using the most reliable source of data about household income and expenditure in Korea.
? Main Results
- With 50% of median income, poverty rate based on market income is 21.5% and 15.3% by disposable income in 2020.
- The 2020 poverty rate(by disposable income) for men was 13.6%, but the poverty rate for women was 19.6%. Women continue to have higher rates of poverty than men.
- The Gini coefficient is 0.405 with market income and 0.331 with disposable income in 2020.
- In 2020, the Gini coefficient with market income has increased compared to 2019, but the Gini coefficient with disposable income has decreased compared to 2019.
? Expected Effects
- This study presents time series data on poverty rate, inequality and middle-class indicators that can be looked to for guidance when searching for ways to improve the National Basic Social Security.
- Policy makers, researchers, and other students will make use of products of our analysis to fulfill their various aims.
