한국의 사회보장제도는 지난 20년간 빠르게 발전해 왔다. 물론 여전히 사회보장제도의 보편화와 지속가능성의 균형을 이루어야 하는 숙제를 안고 있지만, 주요 사회보장정책에서 많은 성취를 이루었다. 그럼에도 국제적으로 한국의 사회보장정책에 대한 인식과 평가는 낮은 상황이다. 현실에서 많은 저발전국이 사회보장제도를 뒤늦게 확대하는 과정에서 한국의 경험에 주목하고 있다는 점을 감안하면, 사회보장제도와 정책의 성과를 해외에 알리고, 서구 복지국가 외에도 다양한 국가들과 정책연구분야의 교류를 확대할 필요가 있다.
이 정책자료집은 한국보건사회연구원 차원에서 사회보장정책 연구를 국제화하고 관련 자료를 축적해 왔던 지난 1년간의 사업내용을 간단하게 정리한 것이다. 중국과 일본 등 아시아 주요국의 사회보장정책 관련 전문기관 및 전문가와의 국제협력 및 국제컨퍼런스, 사회보장분야의 각종 데이터 구축 작업 등을 소개하고 있다.
